Tokyo Sky Tree Under Construction

The Tokyo Sky Tree just across the river from Asakusa, near Oshiage station will tower to a huge 634 meters when complete in the December of 2012.

These pictures are from my office in Akihabara, not far from where it is currently being built.  Right now they have just reached the point to begin building the first observation deck at 349 meters.
I suspect that the construction workers and the crane operators already have a magnificent view from their workplace.

You can see the rest of the pictures from the Picassa Web Album Here.

Hi Mark,

I was at Tokyo, Ota-ku, last year in August (to do a technical training for our sales team) for about a week, but at that time I was not able to see any traces of the new Tokyo Sky Tree.
As I know from your other blog, you work for the SMC Cooperation as a salaryman. Are you familiar with the (German) company named SCHUNK and their products?

Have a pleasant workweek,

Uwe.

Uwe,

Yes, I am aware of Schunk. I have competed against your grippers and rotary actuators. I won't tell you where though.

The Tokyo Sky Tree is located near Asakusa so you would not have seen it beyond the buildings in Ota-Ku. You have to get around to at least Chiyoda Ku and past the buildings to see it. From our HQ in Akihabara, the tower is quite visible at all times from the west facing side of the building. It is going to look great when it is finished.

Hi Mark,

during my sojourn in Tokyo I found accommodation at the Shibuya Excel Hotel direct next to Shibuya station and Shibuya crossing. From my breakfast restaurant at the 25th floor I had a great view to Shinjuku direction and other parts of Tokyo.

I just read on Wikipedia, that the foundations for the three main legs were completed on 6 April 2009. So I had a good chance in August NOT to see much higher parts of the quite "young" Sky Tree to be in contrast to the rest of Tokyo skyline.

I'm specialist for toolholding and workholding in the SCHUNK company and I'm far away from spying into your business secrets... ;-)

My workday begins, keep up / carry on blogging,

Uwe.
